About
Mia Renfer is a violinist and composer who creates and releases her own music while performing internationally. She is a member of the Swiss National Orchestra and teaches violin as the assistant to Ina Dimitrova at the Hochschule Musik – Luzern.
Since 2024, Mia has toured with the Festival Strings Lucerne under the artistic direction of Daniel Dodds, performing alongside world-class musicians such as Akiko Suwanai, Maria João Pires, Alena Baeva, Bomsori Kim, Rudolf Buchbinder, Inmo Yang, and Sir James Galway.
Born in Shizuoka, Japan, to Japanese-Swiss parentage, Mia began playing the violin at the age of three. She studied under Monika Urbaniak at the Hochschule der Künste Bern, later earning her Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with Mayumi Seiler. She went on to complete a Master’s degree in music pedagogy at the Hochschule Musik – Luzern with Daniel Dodds, where she is currently also pursuing her Master’s degree in performance.
Her career includes concerts across Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Ukraine, Canada, Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, and Turkey. Together with her younger sister Moe, she won first prize multiple times in Duo and Trio categories at the SJMW (Swiss Competition for Young Musicians). In the Solo category, she has twice received first prize with awards and exceptional prizes at the SJMW finals.
